Finding a CBT Therapist

To arrange an assessment with a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) practitioner, Behaviour Therapist or Cognitive Therapist who is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), use the www.babcp.com web-site. This lists all UK-based accredited
CBT practitioners and allows a search by location or area of competence in order to identify locally accredited practitioners. Alternatively, contact Mr Howard Lomas on +44 (0)1254 875277 or email membership@babcp.com

The BABCP has a list of predominantly UK-based CBT practitioners and may be able to help with the names of overseas-based practitioners as well.

The Calipso team is unable to provide advice concerning treatment over the web or via email - to do a proper assessment takes around 50-60 minutes to allow proper joint discussion and to begin to jointly understand the possible different physical, psychological or social factors that may be involved in how you feel.

The Calipso team suggests discussing your difficulties with your own doctor - they may be able to recommend local CBT practitioners - it is always wise to keep them informed about any treatment decisions you make.

Free patient leaflets
BABCP has produced a series of excellent leaflets that describe what Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is, and also summarise common mental health problems such as anxiety, panic, bipolar disorders, phobias and other conditions. They may help you to decide if the approach is for you.

The leaflets can be downloaded at www.babcp.com
